Après six années comme directrice générale du Mahatma Gandhi Institute et du Rabindranath Tagore Institute, Soorya Gayan annonce son départ pour se consacrer à des projets personnels.
Soorya Gayan a rejoint l’institution de Moka en 1976 comme Research Officer et a occupé ce poste jusqu’en 2000. En 2001, elle est nommée directrice, puis directrice générale de Mahatma Gandhi Institute and Rabindranath Tagore Institute de 2004 à 2005. En janvier 2015, elle est reconduite à ce poste jusqu’à ce jour.
En 2013, elle a été faite Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. Elle cultive une grande passion pour la dance indienne et la chorégraphie.
