Philippe Gentil, le compositeur de l’hymne national est décédé, ce mardi matin, à l’âge de 92 ans.
Cet habitant de Quatre-Bornes avait contribué à la composition de l’hymne national, « Motherland », qui a été joué pour la première fois au Champ-de-Mars lors des célébrations officielles du 12 mars 1968.
Après une longue carrière dans la force policière, plus particulièrement au sein du Police Band, Philippe Gentil a pris sa retraite en 1988. Philippe Gentil a plusieurs fois été décoré. Il est fait Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), en 1968, Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (OSK) en 2008 et Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean ( CSK) en 2010.
