[Paul Lismore] This song could easily describe the state of law and order in Mauritius
Ekut ban paroles la bien, et dimane zot si sa pa dekrir seki p arive a ene Morisien en particulier...

" Here comes the story of the Hurricane
The man the authorities came to blame
For somethin' that he never done
Put in a prison cell..."

Of course, it could easily apply to so many Mauritians arrested unlawfully by a police force now made up of many criminals...But I have in mind one particular gentleman, Bruneau Laurette, who seems to have been forgotten by many, esp those he helped when he was free...

Bob Dylan - Hurricane

This is the fate of many of our citizens, esp the Creoles who continue to suffer from all sorts of prejudices and police harassment.

" Had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down
When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road
Just like the time before and the time before that
In Paterson (Or Mauritius today...)that's just the way things go
If you're black you might as well not show up on the street
'Less you want to draw the heat"

When the police fabricates evidence, and decent people would expect the magistrates and the Office of the DPP to say, "fuck that! We are not going ahead with this! Release him"....But this is what happens in our etat de droit:

" But then they took him to the jailhouse
Where they try to turn a man into a mouse
All of Rubin's (Bruneau's...) cards were marked in advance
The trial was a pig-circus, he never had a chance"

This is what always happens in our etat de droit...Zourlanus merely  "report" what the bent police men/women tell them....

" And the newspapers, they all went along for the ride
How can the life of such a man
Be in the palm of some fool's hand?
 To see him obviously framed
Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land
 Where justice is a game"

This is the reality in Mauritius, where big thieves receive a Presidential "pardon" from a buffoon who is less intelligent than a gato brinzel...

"Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties
Are free to drink martinis and watch the sun rise
While Rubin Bruneau) sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell
An innocent man in a living hell".

As Aesop said many millenia ago, " We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office." In Mauritius, the more you steal, the more idiots suck up to you and the higher the chances of some cretin nominating you to lead an institution and to ruin it...

If the court had any decency and integrity, Bruneau Laurette would be released on bail and all the fake charges against him dropped...

It is quite something when an animal of a step brother rapes his 10 year old step sister, is  released on bail, only for him to rape again his now 15 year old step sister. And they imprison and charge Bruneau Laurette and so many others with offences that only fools, magistrates, and zavokas in the DPP office believe to be genuine... Etat de droit? Bousse le tonkin, do!
