A conflict of interest occurs when an individual’s personal interests – family, friendships, financial, or social factors – could compromise his or her judgment, decisions, or actions in the workplace.
Government agencies take conflicts of interest so seriously that they are regulated. Industry organizations, corporations, and universities follow that lead by including conflicts of interest in their policies, regulations, and standards of operating procedures. EXCEPT IN MAURITIUS WHERE IT IS REALLY A CASE OF “It’s who you know, not what you know.”
Let me give you the clearest example of conflict of interest that I can think of:
1/ A chuttur ka mou, hopelessly incompetent Head of our "anti corruption" body known as ICAC, is appointed on 1st July 2016 on contract by the then Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth's father...
2/ ICAC has been "investigating" what most people consider to be a corrupt land deal on Angus Road, in the scandal I have nicknamed LAngussorma. Which of course directly concerns Pravind Jugnauth and Lady Macbeth.
3/ The Chuttur ka mou is the world champion in " Mo p enkor etidier dossier la", and has been etidier that particular dossier since infants who were breastfeeding have now sprouted pubic hairs...Et li p enkor etidier dossier la!
4/ Guess whose contract for etidier dossiers and doing fuck all else comes up for renewal on 30th June 2021, i.e. in 4 weeks' time?
5/ Guess who is solely responsible for either extending the contract or appointing someone else? Yes, our lovely jeune et dynamique 60 year old Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
6/ Guess who has been verbally told, " Pa pran traka! Lady Macbeth in dire moi ki pena personne ki belo roti pli bien ki toi dan la cuisine. To contrat pou renouveler."
7/ Guess what the chuttur ka mou will do now re LAngussorma? He will either continier etidier dossiers la until the breastfeeding kids have kids of their own....or he will declare that li in bien etidier dossier la et pa ena case to answer.
Now, tell me: Is this a clear case of conflict of interest or not? Or do you still let the vacant space between your ears fill up with slogans like " Nou bizin respekter nou institutions! Nou dan ene etat de droit!"?
