[NEO] Moralité rempli vant ! Or how to counter the Porno Government …

Rédigé par NEO le Samedi 26 Mars 2022

Looking at a reputed dictionary, what is obscene is what defines the concept of « porno ». So in light of the multiple shameless and unabashed displays of obscenity from those in charge of this country, it is only appropriate therefore to call them for what they actually are : « A Porno Government.»

But one would be mistaken if one restricts his understanding of obscenity to only acts of a carnal nature. Obscenity has many contemporary dimensions in how it is displayed worldwide and in Mauritius as well. Let us however keep our focus to the local context and look at some illustrations of our Porno Government. They are obscene in the way that:

1. They are pilfering public money for the benefit of their private interests
2. Failures and mediocrities are rewarded with inflated seats and positions
3. Law enforcement has been politicised and kept under their small whimsical toe
4. They run Parliament as if it was a pig pen
5. Accountability has been debased and most public servants are happy being tail-waggers for
dog-biscuits
6. Their courtesans, lackeys and henchmen are having a merry time behaving as unrestrained
tiny disciples of Phallus towards the rest of the population
7. The course of justice has been perverted and independent institutions have been transformed
into their lapdogs
8. They taint everything or everybody that fall under their gaze down to their own level of
mediocrity or crookedness
9. They have burdened the population and future generations with inconsiderate debt levels to
satisfy their big fat egos through useless megalomaniac projects
10. They behave as if power was their birthright instead of being temporary custodians of public
interest
11. They have killed people during the pandemic through inept policy-making while showing no
remorse and instead engaging into shameless and outrageous partying or whoring.
12. They have shattered our fragile history (yet full of contradictions to be resolved), culture and
values that stemmed from our struggles for freedom and liberty to lead us towards a crass,
uncivil and vulgar society where individualism and personal interests (even those of a dirty
nature) prime over collective interests.
13. Taxpayer!s money is being used to pay and entertain their ladyloves, escorts or other loose
women/consorts. There was a time that people caught with adulterine behaviour held their
head in shame and showed enough decency to remove themselves from public life.
Nowadays, they are competing among themselves for the prize of Rocco-Of-The-Year.
14. They have jeopardised with absolute disdain the future of younger generations through
continuous woeful decision-making regarding education. In two years, they have succeeded
in 1.) creating an abundant future workforce of manual workers for the local industry and
service sector 2.) bringing despair to the brightest students by trying their best to drag them
to their own level of mediocrity;
15. etc …

So how do we move back from a pornocracy to being a democracy again? Firstly, one need to understand that this will not be a fight without damages for those who dare to do so, both direct
or collateral. A pornocracy, by definition, has countless sycophants who are prepared to do its
bidding, be it through the most atrocious ways and who will be over-zealous in their attempts to
stifle change. And therefore, individual sacrifices will need to happen, sad stories will need to be
written and the probability of failure will be high. No revolution path has happened any differently
over the past centuries. This is not therefore for the faint-hearted or for the one who cannot afford
to make such sacrifices for valid reasons.

Secondly, the very concept of morality is a tricky thing. In the hands of a weak mind, it will lead to
a world of oversimplification, prejudice and recourse to antiquated religious practices or taboos.
In the hands of an evil mind, it will lead to the establishment of a power-grabbing political agenda
such as the set-up of a moral police, restrictions of individual liberties, flouting of democratic
fundamentals and the rise of authoritarianism. And a combination of evil and weak minds (they
easily assemble together) is a cocktail not less nefarious than a pornocracy.

So without any ambiguity, this text is referring to morality in the context of a secular democracy
and there is a need to define briefly (a whole book would not be enough) what this means. The
focus is on the fact that 1.) politics is executed by persons, 2.) a democracy is defined by a
common set of fundamental values and 3.) for values to thrive in any given political system,
persons of high personal integrity and moral stature are required. Sadly, in most cases, persons
holding a public office in this country do not qualify in that respect.

So how do we make progress? Morality starts by establishing a common set of fundamental
values for which we as a nation stand for (Human dignity, Freedom, Equal Opportunities,
Inclusiveness, Solidarity, Common Good, Tolerance, Accountability, Transparency, Social
Justice, Peace, Absence of repression, Civic virtue, Civic participation, Right to dissent, Control of
the abuse of power etc …) and to see that these are transmitted from generation to generation in
a clear and explicit manner through all age groups. And if the State has failed younger
generations in that respect, this doesn’t mean that we as parents, sons and daughters, brothers
and sisters should abdicate our conscience and responsibility towards our kin and lead them into
a blind obedience to pornocrats.

Our forefathers have fought hard in this land for us to have freedom of conscience and reason for
the purpose of betterment and progress, not for the purpose of sliding towards new forms of
enslavement. One needs to understand that if he accept to play the game of a small group of
privileged individuals desperate to hold on to power by adapting to the conditions imposed to
him, he is complicit in creating those same conditions for the rest of us. So instead of turning a
blind eye and adopt a fatalistic approach or even a serf mentality to the activities of the
pornocrats, it is time to stand up and call obscene or indecent actions for what they are.

In everyone of us, there is some longing for humanity, for rightful dignity, for moral integrity, for
free expression of being and a sense of transcendence over the world of basic survival or
utilitarian existence. Yet, at the same time, each person is capable, to a greater or lesser degree,
of coming to terms with living within a lie and to succumb to the comfort of such lies and negate
his humanness. Being an anonymous among a crowd of followers can be reassuring until one is
directly hit by immoral decisions made by a given authority.

In our country, it starts by exorcising what has permeated the popular mindset for the past 30
years or so, that is that « Moralité pas rempli vant ». These words may have been said in a given
context but any given responsible politician should have known that it is not the utterance of the
words that matter but the way they will be interpreted and acted upon by individuals. And so, this
shameful expression is at the core of the disease of moral depravation (in the sense, I repeat, of a
secular democracy) which have affected us till then and led us to the pornocracy currently in
charge.

It is time to regain control over one’s own sense of responsibility and to start living in world of
values. For this it is necessary to shatter the world of appearances, which is the fundamental pillar
of any abusive system and to call out « the emperor for being naked ». By doing this moral act
and even if one must pay dearly for it, we would have started the path towards « Moralité rempli
vant »

NB: Part of this text is inspired from « The Power of the Powerless » by Vaclav Havel (1978).
